An Update, Woo Hoo!
I've registered the domain http://www.beyondelsewhere.com last month, thus securing a place on the 'Net to host this blog, and promote the novel series. Very satisfying. :)
I'm currently working on the Writer's Bible, as well as more text for books 1-3. The tentative titles are as follows:
Book #1 - A Crescendo of Color
Book #2 - The Sign of Fire
Book # 3 - Hill Where The Lord Hides
The writing goes slow as I am refining plot points, characters, and settings. The hardest part is trying NOT to be like the other space opera series already out in the domain. It is a challenge, to be sure. People will tell me when I've screwed up.. ::smirk::
Well, time to get back to work...

Bryan, that trilogy format's a good one to work with! Your first book can essentially be complete in itself (or at least see some form of temrporary resolution), then have a fairly downbeat, journey-type middle book, followed by the book that ultimately resolves it all.
The plot/character balance is tricky to get right - it all tends to go one way or the other ultimately. I wouldn't worry too much about aspects of your work resembly other stuff that's around - it often happens completely independently, with good ideas whose time has come!
